ERP Data Semantics Engineer (QAD/Progress OpenEdge)
Job Description

- Do you enjoy cracking open ERP schemas to answer “what does this field actually mean?”
- Do you thrive on turning undocumented structures into reliable models for manufacturing, supply chain, quality, logistics, customer, and supplier reporting?
- Are QAD and Progress OpenEdge your home turf—and you can read embedded 4GL logic with confidence?
Bridge raw ERP data to analytics outcomes. You’ll ensure information is accurately understood, extracted, and made query‑ready for downstream teams building in our data lake, Alteryx, and Power BI.
What you’ll do- Map and document tables, fields, relationships, and business logic across QAD, Progress OpenEdge, and adjacent systems.
- Reverse‑engineer poorly documented schemas and produce clear source‑to‑target mapping specs with transformation logic and business rules.
- Translate reporting requirements into faithful data models and SQL/4GL query logic.
- Own a living data dictionary for QAD/OpenEdge (and others as needed), capturing definitions, valid values, and true business meaning.
- Design extractions with the enterprise data lake as the destination, feeding raw and curated layers in OCI Object Storage / Oracle ADB.
- Build interfaces via database integrations, ODBC, and file‑based transfers.
- Partner with data lake, Alteryx, and Power BI developers to ensure data is structurally sound, semantically correct, and reporting‑ready.
- Troubleshoot data quality and mapping issues; implement durable fixes; monitor pipelines for optimization opportunities.
- Explore on‑premise LLM integration (e.g., connecting ERP/data lake content to locally hosted models) to accelerate mapping, documentation, and query assistance.
- Maintain accuracy, consistency, and synchronization across enterprise systems.
- Establish validation, reconciliation, and exception‑handling processes.
- Partner with business stakeholders across:
- Convert business needs into technical mapping solutions.
- Contribute to planning, estimation, documentation, testing, and deployment.
- Advise on ERP data structure and integration architecture best practices.
- Follow cybersecurity standards for all data handling and integrations.
- Support compliance for automotive customer expectations and industry standards.
- Maintain documentation, version control, and change management discipline.
- 5+ years in data integration, ERP systems, or enterprise application development.
- 3+ years supporting manufacturing organizations.
- Required: QAD and Progress OpenEdge expertise, including interpreting Progress OpenEdge 4GL data structures and embedded business logic.
- Evidence of mapping/reverse‑engineering ERP data (e.g., mapping docs, data dictionaries).
- Strong SQL; ability to reverse‑engineer unfamiliar or undocumented schemas.
- Comfort reading ERP data dictionaries, table relationships, and legacy logic.
- Skill in converting business questions into accurate source‑system queries.
- Experience with:

- Alteryx and/or Power BI familiarity (or other ETL/reporting tools).
- SOAP services, DevOps, CI/CD, and source control experience.
- On‑prem/self‑hosted LLM deployment (Ollama, Open WebUI) or integrating internal data with locally hosted AI models.
- Project management experience or PMP certification.
- Bachelor's degree in:
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
