Superintendent
About the Company
Our client is a well-established and respected leader in infrastructure construction across Michigan. Known for delivering technically complex projects with precision, quality, and a collaborative approach, the company is expanding its infrastructure portfolio throughout Southwest Michigan and eastward toward the Lansing region.
As part of this growth, the firm is seeking a highly capable Superintendent who can take ownership of major field operations and serve as a key leader on long-term, high-impact projects.
About the Position
The Superintendent will serve as the onsite field leader for a major water treatment plant project. This individual will oversee day-to-day construction activities, coordinate field teams and subcontractors, maintain safety standards, and ensure the project is executed efficiently and according to plan.
Because this is a multi-year project, the Superintendent must be able to build strong working relationships with the owner, design partners, subcontractors, and the internal team. The firm is looking for someone dependable, proactive, and capable of becoming a long-term leader for future infrastructure work across Southwest and Southeast Michigan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily field leadership for all site operations, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and to specification.
- Lead and coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, and the onsite project team (APM, Safety, and others).
- Foster strong relationships with owners, architects/engineers, project partners, and internal teams—critical for a multi-year engagement.
- Manage daily and weekly planning, including look-ahead schedules, task sequencing, and coordination with the Project Manager.
- Integrate field activities with the overall Microsoft Project master schedule; identify gaps or issues and work with the team to resolve them.
- Support weekly Owner–Architect–Contractor (OAC) meetings by providing schedule updates and field insights.
- Oversee quality control, safety compliance, and field documentation.
- Help resolve internal and external disputes and maintain a collaborative project environment.
- Utilize Autodesk Build (and Autodesk Cost) where applicable—experience is a major plus.
- Serve as a trusted, go-to field leader that the company can count on for high-profile projects and long-term infrastructure growth.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Superintendent on large-scale civil, water/wastewater, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong field leadership skills—able to coach, guide, and lead by example while maintaining a collaborative team culture.
- Ability to manage daily site operations, subcontractor coordination, safety, sequencing, and quality control.
- Experience with Microsoft Project scheduling (or the ability to work closely with PMs on schedule execution).
- Experience with Autodesk Build is a significant advantage.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
- Ability to identify and solve field issues proactively and professionally.
- Local candidates or those living within ~60 minutes of Kalamazoo strongly preferred.
Benefits
- Salary Range: $160,000 – $180,000
- Annual performance-based bonus
- Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits
- Long-term career growth with opportunities to become a key field leader for major infrastructure projects across Michigan
- Supportive leadership and strong company culture
