Position at Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc.

SEWS — Farmington Hills, Michigan Office.Although located at SEWS – Farmington Hills Office, this is a Hybrid position, which combines both in office and off-site work.Associates are required to work at least four days in the office each week, but also have the flexibility to work off-site.

Quality Engineer II

Basic Purpose:

Monitor OEM warranty claims and part returns to identify opportunities for harness design and process improvement. Engage with APQP, engineering, manufacturing, SQA and current production as well as performing teardowns of returned harnesses to determine root cause and containment. Manage customer requirements for investigations, report-outs, etc. Some domestic and international travel required.

Responsibilities:

1. Understand details of OEM warranty claims for effective problem solving, report-outs and chargeback disputes through claims analysis, teardowns, etc.
2. Collaborate with APQP, engineering, manufacturing, SQA and current production to determine root causes and containments.
3. Collaborate with manufacturing, SQA and engineering to utilize 8D problem solving techniques to respond customer claims.
4. Report out to SEWS management and OEM teams. Record root causes and containments for Lessons Learned.
5. Communicate regularly with OEM customer. Provide monthly and on demand report-outs to OEM customer.
6. Strong communication/ interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
7. Coordinate and support the audit of the IATF.
8. Flexibility to provide support to other areas of the Quality department as requested by management.
9. Flexibility to travel to Mexico and US.
10. Promote and assure the standards issues by SEWS and SEWS Quality Assurance in alignment with SEWS' values, objectives and quality.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering/Manufacturing Engineering or similar field.

3 to 5 years of progressive engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.

Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.

Experience with 8D problem solving.

Automotive electrical systems vehicle knowledge.
