3 rd Grade Teacher 2026-2027

The Position

Do you believe that it is a calling to teach in Catholic schools? Are you a passionate, faith-filled Catholic educator eager to inspire young minds and shape lifelong disciples of Christ? Are you a disciple of Jesus Christ eager to lead students closer to Him so that they too will know of His love for them? If so, Saint Isaac Jogues Catholic School in St. Clair Shores, Michigan invites you to join our dedicated team as a 3rd grade teacher in our vibrant, faith-filled community.

Teaching at a Catholic school is more than a career choice; it’s a response to God’s invitation to give of yourself—your gifts, your experience, your knowledge, your charity, and your faith—over and over again. It’s a job intimately linked to the convictions of your heart and your hopes for the future.

About Us

  • At Saint Isaac Jogues Catholic School, we are a joyful Catholic Family, where Christ is Our Teacher.
  • We are faithful disciples nourished by reverent celebration of the Sacraments, lifelong students growing in holiness and virtue, a generous community enriched by traditions and fellowship, and devoted servants fueled by missionary zeal.
  • We are blessed by the presence of two religious communities – the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, and the priests and brothers of Pro Ecclesia Sancta, along with many dedicate lay staff members.
  • We work from an understanding that to educate a child in the wonders of the world is to educate that child in God Himself. Thus, every subject is like an open window through which we touch eternity. As we form our minds in knowledge, we come to know ourselves and our Creator better.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an enthusiastic educator who believes in our mission and is ready to witness to the evangelizing love of Jesus Christ in the 3rd grade classroom.

The Responsibilities

Faith Integration: Develop engaging lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and immersed in an authentic Catholic worldview.

Classroom Culture : Lead a well-managed classroom where the faith is immersed through the integration of prayer, faith, virtue, and reflection into the daily life of the students.

Collaboration with Parents: Support the parents in their primary role as educators through regular communication, updates, conferences, and accessible channels.

Collaboration with Colleagues: Work closely with teachers, administrators, our pastor, and support staff to promote a culture that is aimed at helping students to flourish in the world, but more importantly encouraging them to become Saints.

Growth Mindset : Engage in professional development and personal spiritual growth opportunities to enhance your practice.

Joyful Witness : Demonstrate enthusiastic support for our mission, a love for children, and a desire to inspire wonder while living as an outstanding example of the Catholic faith, aligning your professional and personal life with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Instruct students at a high level on a daily basis in the subject(s) designated in the teacher’s contract and cater instruction to various student needs

  • Prepare and submit to Principal measurable learning objectives for various subjects taught and design instruction toward the goal of meeting these objectives
  • Prepare regular lesson plans for weekly/monthly review and approval of Principal as well as detailed emergency lesson plans for substitutes
  • Attend to the general administrative responsibilities of a teacher including presence at all faculty meetings and school events at which faculty attendance is required; preparing and submitting required student records and reports on a timely basis; maintaining effective communication with parents of students; and performing other school-related duties as required
  • Maintain professional growth, teaching credentials, and catechetical credentials by attending college courses and professional seminars related to area of specialty and staying current on best practices in Catholic education
  • Prepare referrals of special student cases or significant school problems and submit them to the proper agency/authority

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and/or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan.
  • All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.
  • All teachers who are catechists (teachers of religion) must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools (or willing to obtain such certifications).
