7th & 8th Grade Football Assistant Coach

Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for a Middle School 7th & 8th Grade Football Assistant Coach . The district seeks qualified applicants to operate in the capacity of Middle School athletics.

General Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved
  • Plans and schedules a regular program or practice in season
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present
  • Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season
  • Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for break of such standards by individual students
  • Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sports
  • Established performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in sport and is consistent in supervising district & MHSAA criteria for eligibility in competition
  • Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up
  • Works closely with the assistant athletic coordinator in scheduling interscholastic contests
  • Accounts for all equipment or delegates the responsibility
  • Develops a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the athletic program
  • Works in junction with the Head Coach to do what is best for the overall program
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the head coach or administration
  • Maintains regular, reliable and punctual attendance
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout their employment in the District

Supervisory Responsibilities : supervises students and other coaches in a particular program.

  • Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent; two years previous work experience preferred.
  • Language Skills: read and interpret documents such as policies, regulations, and articles; write correspondence; speak effectively before student/parents/stakeholders; and listen and respond to inquiries
  • Mathematical Skills: calculate figures and amounts; and apply math concepts to practical situations
  • Reasoning Skills: solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables; use logic and reasoning to interpret instructions whether written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Other Skills: technologically literate using Chromebook computers and Google applications; able to effectively take direction, as well as, work independently and as a member of a team; ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor; punctual and rarely absent work habits; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies, experience working with young children, especially those with special needs/behavioral issues, patience, a nurturing demeanor, and enjoys working with children

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear; required to bend at the back more than the average person. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public, staff and administration; must be able to communicate to the team in order to give directions.

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud; will continuously work inside or outside depending on the sporting event; the employee is required to meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interact with stakeholders, and work regular hours.

  • Compensation: According to extracurricular/athletic pay scale, base $1,500/season.
