Calibration Engineer - Electrification
Description
Work Classification:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford Michigan three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
We are seeking motivated candidates for an Electrification Calibration Tool Engineer position in GM's Global Electrification Calibration group at the Milford Proving Ground. This role is a hybrid between tool ownership and hands-on calibration for GM’s electrified vehicle portfolio.
The selected engineer will:
Own and maintain the primary automation tool (scripted in Python) that generates Serial Data and Platform Configuration calibrations.
Collaborate with other teams who develop similar tools to identify where our automation can be reused by them and where we should adopt or align with their tooling.
Hold direct calibration responsibility for one or two vehicle programs, ensuring robust feature and diagnostic performance.
While the role is more tool-focused than a traditional calibration position, it still includes some in-vehicle and lab activities, along with related analytical and performance verification work. Calibration engineers engage in cross-functional teams, are expected to handle multiple projects/priorities, and frequently need to balance planned and unplanned work. A typical week may include analytical calibration work, tool development and support, and collaboration with algorithm/software, hardware, and greater calibration teams.
This position will support electrification calibration of Serial Data and Platform Configuration on GM vehicles. The selected candidate will deliver calibrations that ensure feature/diagnostic functionality and robustness. Successful candidates will utilize system hardware/software troubleshooting skills to resolve issues and complete their calibration standard work, and will own the development and maintenance of tools that automate configuration calibrations.
What You’ll Do:
Own the calibration automation tool
Develop, maintain, and enhance the Python-based tool that generates configuration calibrations.
Ensure the tool is reliable, well-documented, and easy for other calibrators to use.
Monitor tool health, triage issues, and drive continuous improvement based on user feedback.
Lead calibration tooling alignment
Work with other calibration and software/tool teams to align on a shared toolchain for configuration automation.
Identify where our tools can be reused by other groups and where we should adopt or align with their tooling.
Keep workflows simple, documented, and consistent so calibrators can reliably use the automation.
Deliver calibrations for vehicle programs
Develop and optimize calibrations for Serial Data and Platform Configuration on one or two assigned vehicle programs to meet performance and timing requirements utilizing Calibration Standard Work.
Conduct calibration reviews to ensure high-quality calibrations and proper documentation.
Organize, plan, and coordinate calibration activities with the Lead Calibrator and Diagnostic Strategist.
Perform analysis, validation, and support
Utilize analytical tools to develop & verify calibrations; perform targeted in-vehicle, lab/bench, and simulation-based testing as needed.
Diagnose and correct vehicle, system, and controls deficiencies related to configuration and serial data.
Support resolution of vehicle, plant, lab, or customer issues related to Serial Data and Platform Configuration.
Develop and maintain procedures and documentation
Develop, use, and update calibration and tooling procedures , including user guides and onboarding material for the automation tool.
Contribute to standard work and best practices for automated configuration calibrations across programs.
