Job Summary:

The position of Cannabis Compliance Specialist at our organization is designed to ensure strict adherence to all pertinent regulations and standards within the rapidly evolving cannabis industry. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal cannabis regulations and involves a high level of analytical skill to interpret complex compliance requirements effectively. The specialist will work closely with various departments to develop and maintain robust compliance programs, carry out regular audits, and provide necessary guidance to ensure that the organization operates within all legal frameworks.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Regulatory Research and Analysis:

  • Stay current with local, state, and federal cannabis regulations and industry best practices.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of regulatory changes and communicate their impact on the organization.

Policy Development:

  • Collaborate with legal and operational teams to develop, implement, and update compliance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that policies align with current regulations and industry standards.

Training and Education:

  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs to employees, fostering a culture of compliance awareness.
  • Provide ongoing education to staff regarding changes in regulations and compliance requirements.

Compliance Audits:

  • Plan and execute regular compliance audits to assess adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Compile audit findings and collaborate with relevant departments to address identified issues promptly.

Documentation and Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of compliance-related activities, reports, and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory reports in a timely manner.

Internal Collaboration:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, legal, and quality assurance, to address compliance concerns and implement corrective actions.
  • Serve as a point of contact for regulatory agencies and facilitate inspections or inquiries.

Risk Assessment:

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance issues and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Advise management on the potential impact of regulatory changes on business operations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Meticulous attention to detail-must transcribe numerical data, label inventory, review/verify product labeling with high accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills-experience with physical and/or digital recordkeeping strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills-able to follow and provide instructions, ask questions as necessary to fulfill roles and expectations.
  • Results-driven and task-oriented-able to exhibit strong task management and prioritization skills in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Quick adaptability and openness to change.
  • General prior knowledge of workplace health and safety standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of cannabis regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements.
  • Prior experience with METRC seed-to-sale tracking software.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Education and Experience:

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of compliance experience in a highly regulated industry
  • 2+ years of experience working in cannabis compliance
  • METRC experience required
  • Specific experience in cannabis cultivation/manufacturing operations strongly preferred
  • Experience leading inspections and audits and completing corrective action plans
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite-must be comfortable reading, comprehending, and editing spreadsheets, SOPs, and other technical documents
  • Prior inventory management experience preferred
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software (Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred)
  • Experience reading and understanding certificates of analysis (COAs) preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Capable of repetitive hand and arm motions as well as extended periods of typing.
  • Capable of looking at a screen for extended periods or entire shifts.
  • Some travel may be required to attend cross-functional team meetings or support product launch events.

Work Schedule (Non-Exempt):

This position is scheduled on a full-time basis. Specific shift times and workdays are determined by the operation and may vary by location. Business needs may require work on evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as occasional overtime. Scheduled start and end times, assigned shifts, and workdays are subject to change based on staffing and operational requirements. Whenever feasible, advance notice of schedule changes will be provided.

Positions in our production facilities may lead to regular exposure to cannabis plant material, dust, and other potential allergens. Individuals with sensitivity to pollen, molds, or strong odors may experience discomfort. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and required.
