Lead Swim Instructor

Part-Time, Non-Exempt Position; YMCA of Greater Nashua; Nashua Branch

Part time schedule is based on the 7-8 week swim lesson terms. Weekdays and weekends.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Lead Swim Instructor ensures a safe and positive experience for all participants. This role leads with expertise, supports other instructors, and helps deliver high-quality, inclusive lessons that align with YMCA standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide safe, effective swim instruction across a variety of levels and ages.
• Support and mentor swim instructor team members.
• Conduct swim assessments and ensure timely delivery of progress reports and certificates.
• Assist with onboarding, training, and coaching of swim staff.
• Serve as lead deck staff, answering member questions and supporting guest swim tests.
• Maintain class structure, punctuality, attendance tracking, and clear communication with families.
• Ensure a safe, welcoming environment aligned with YMCA values.
• Model and uphold the YMCA’s mission of strengthening spirit, mind, and body for all.

Qualifications:

• Minimum age: 16
• Certifications required: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid
• Preferred: YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguarding, YSL or WSI certification
• Demonstrated ability to teach multiple swim levels and maintain professional readiness

Physical Requirements:

• Pass YMCA or Red Cross water tests
• Tread water for 10 minutes
• Demonstrate proper form of at least 4 strokes
• Must be alert and able to project voice across distances
• Meet physical demands of water rescues and lift requirements
