We are seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Mate. In this vital role, you will be responsible for supporting operational activities, ensuring safety standards, and assisting with management tasks in a fast-paced environment. Your expertise in customer service, local knowledge of Traverse City, and Being an able-bodied Mariner will be essential to maintaining smooth operations and safety compliance. Sailing experience is not required. We will be happy to train the right person. About the Vessel - Wind Dancer was built in Pass Christian, Mississippi in 1986 and launched in 1988. She is a Custom Thomas Colvin Pipistrelle. She is 63 feet long (50 feet long not including the davits and bowsprit). She has a galley, salon, sleeping berth, and head (restroom).

Before coming to Traverse City in November 2020, Wind Dancer spent many years in Grand Haven, Michigan where she was a bit of a celebrity on the water. She has many followers and memories and we’re excited to have her in Traverse City to continue her legacy!

She is owned by Captain Nate Berkebile, Captain Marc McCombs and Captain Dan Mills.

Responsibilities

• Assist captain and coordination of rigging operations to ensure secure and efficient handling of equipment and materials
• Serve Drinks, prepare and serve food to passengers
• Make sure boat is well stocked
• Prepare boat for departure as well as secure boat and then end of shift
• Conduct inspections of equipment, rigging setups, and safety gear to prevent hazards and maintain compliance.
• Participate in training sessions related to mechanical systems, rigging techniques, and safety procedures
• Complete all required cleaning duties
• Provide Rock Star Customer service!

Skills

• Must Enjoy working with the public
• Strong management skills with the ability to coordinate tasks efficiently within a team setting
• Basic knowledge of making simple cocktails, but we will train
• Neat, clean and organized
• Excellent communication skills for clear instructions and team collaboration
• Ability to follow detailed procedures accurately while maintaining a proactive approach
• Physical fitness to perform manual tasks involving lifting, climbing, or working in confined spaces
• Must be able to pass a drug screen, pre-employment and randomly during season
• Must be CPR/FA certified (we can coordinate efforts to help with this upon request)
• Must be TIPS certified (we can coordinate efforts to help with this upon request)
