Senior Accountant (Client Direct Hire Position) Location Melvindale, MI :

A great UHY client is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with a trucking company, strong Excel experience, and will help improve the overall profitability with the company.

This position is primarily onsite.

Areas of Responsibility:

• Prepare and help in producing financial statements by gather and analyze data from AS400, Access, and information from inside and outside departments in accordance with GAAP and company policy within corporate reporting timelines
• Prepare general ledger entries and reconcile all balance sheet accounts at month-end including all cash and bank accounts and ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with company policy.
• Develop and enhance reporting capabilities by setting up and splitting out P&L revenue and expenses into various companies and departments to determine profitability of each cost center
• Evaluate, investigate and resolve accounting errors, discrepancies, and reconciling items to ensure the accuracy of the financial information
• Review weekly payroll information and communicate the errors to make the correction
• Prepare and submit weekly workers' compensation insurance premium timely
• Collects data and prepares various month-end reporting and key performance indicators (KPI's) for reporting to management
• Monitor and manage daily cash flow to minimize any fraudulent activities
• Reconcile the monthly bank accounts
• Maintain good relationships with financial institutions to assist and secure funds to meet the cash flow as needed
• Support and provide information to financial reviews and outside audits
• Review and work with terminal managers to ensure the accuracy of the truck fuel and mileages
• Develop processes, reconcile fuel usage and mileages, and file quarterly IFTA and other fuel tax returns
• Support the development and implementation of accounting policies; recommend changes, policy, and procedures need to improve overall company's performance
• Share information and communicate with different departments to improve the company's overall company profit
• Perform other duties or participates in other initiatives assigned
• Prepare and create special reports and analysis as required

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree with an accounting concentration
• Proficiency in Excel - need to know intermediate formulas and functions like sumifs, VLOOKUP's, pivot tables.
• Proficiency in AS400 preferred
• Attention to detail
• Good written and communication skills
• Qualified candidates must have five years of senior accountant experience or demonstrate career progression within the accounting field over a five-year period.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
