Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for a Varsity Men’s Golf Coach . The district seeks qualified applicants to operate in the capacity of High School athletics.

General Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Oversees all assistant coaches in sport. Is expected to give input in hiring and retaining of all assistant coaches
  • Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved
  • Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present
  • Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season
  • Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and established and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students
  • Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport
  • Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in this sport and is consistent in supervising district & MHSAA criteria for eligibility in competition
  • Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up
  • Works closely with the athletic coordinator in scheduling interscholastic contests
  • Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms
  • Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork
  • Accounts for all equipment or delegates the responsibility
  • Develops a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the athletic program
  • Develops a quality program in respective sport. Takes time necessary to develop younger players’ skills and attitudes
  • Maintains regular, reliable and punctual attendance
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the administration
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout their employment in the District

Supervisory Responsibilities : supervises students.

  • Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent; two years previous work experience preferred
  • Language Skills: read and interpret documents such as policies, regulations, and articles; write correspondence; speak effectively before student/parents/stakeholders; and listen and respond to inquiries
  • Mathematical Skills: calculate figures and amounts; and apply math concepts to practical situations
  • Reasoning Skills: solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables; use logic and reasoning to interpret instructions whether written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Other Skills: technologically literate using Chromebook computers and Google applications; able to effectively take direction, as well as, work independently and as a member of a team; ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor; punctual and rarely absent work habits; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies, experience working with young children, especially those with special needs/behavioral issues, patience, a nurturing demeanor, and enjoys working with children
