Maintenance Staff Position | Grace Episcopal Church, Holland
The Role
This maintenance position involves the ongoing care and maintenance of the buildings and grounds of Grace Church, including the Church, Grace House offices, and the Parish House. The position is part-time, averaging eight to ten hours per week. Maintenance Staff works closely with the Coordinator for Ministry Support and reports directly to the Rector.
Due to the broad nature of the job, the list of responsibilities is not necessarily comprehensive. They will require an attitude and desire to “take care of things” as they arise, regardless of whether they are specifically laid out in the following job description. The major responsibilities are listed here:
Responsibilities
- Perform general routine and preventive maintenance and repairs throughout Grace’s buildings and grounds; proactively look for and report issues before they become problems
- Ensure proper functioning of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, security systems, and elevator
- Set up spaces including tables, chairs and other items for groups/events/classes as needed
- Clear snow and ice from sidewalks and stairs (especially on Sunday mornings)
- Collaborate with the Coordinator of Ministry Support to
- Ensure that daily operations of the church facilities run smoothly
- Hire and coordinate outside contractors for non-routine maintenance and repair issues outside the skillset or the scope of this position to ensure that all work is completed properly and efficiently
- Clarify timelines and roles on major projects
- Ensure the building is property equipped for emergency response needs
- Ensure that all necessary regulatory documents, such as permits and licenses, are up to date and in compliance with local laws and regulations.
- In collaboration with the Building and Grounds Commission arrange for
- the property's landscaping including mowing, clean up and care of the grounds (handled by an outside contractor)
- The plowing and clearing of snow and ice from the parking lot (handled by an outside contractor)
- Open up the building on Sunday mornings, turn on lights, check systems
- Attend monthly meetings of the Buildings and Grounds Commission
- Participate in weekly meetings of the Grace Staff
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks
- Ideally, previous experience and basic knowledge of heating and HVAC systems
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Flexible (Church events often occur outside of regular business hours and on weekends, so flexibility in scheduling is essential.)
