First Article Inspector | Rockford, MI

Salary Range: $48,000 - $75,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD models to understand inspection requirements.
• Perform precise dimensional inspections using a variety of metrology tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers, gauges, optical comparators).
• Verify material certifications, special processes, and surface finishes against engineering specifications.
• Generate comprehensive First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with industry standards (e.g., AS9102).
• Document all inspection results accurately, including identification and reporting of non-conformances.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure product conformity.
• Maintain calibration and proper function of inspection equipment and tools.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proficiency in interpreting complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D models, including expert-level understanding of GD&T.
• Demonstrated expertise in operating and programming various precision measurement equipment (e.g., CMM, calipers, micrometers, optical comparators).
• Thorough knowledge and practical application of First Article Inspection (FAI) processes and industry standards (e.g., AS9102, AS9100).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail for identifying and documenting non-conformances.
• Excellent written communication skills for creating comprehensive FAI reports, inspection logs, and quality documentation.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a quality inspection or manufacturing environment, preferably with FAI responsibilities.

Bonus Qualifications

• CMM programming or advanced operation experience
• Advanced GD&T certification (e.g., ASME GDTP Senior Level)
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC) or data analysis
• Familiarity with 3D CAD software for model viewing and analysis
