Embedded Systems Engineer | Kentwood, MI

Salary Range: $78,000 - $123,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test embedded hardware and firmware for manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Write, debug, and optimize C/C++ firmware for microcontrollers controlling production line machinery.
• Integrate embedded systems with industrial automation protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT) and PLCs.
• Provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting for embedded systems failures to minimize production downtime.
• Develop and implement real-time control algorithms for precision manufacturing operations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and validate embedded solutions.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for embedded system performance issues.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems development on microcontrollers.
• Strong understanding of digital and analog electronics, schematics, and debugging tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
• Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles.
• Familiarity with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and developing real-time, low-latency applications.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., CAN bus, Modbus, SPI, I2C, Ethernet).
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex embedded hardware/software issues and perform root cause analysis.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET, OPC UA)
• Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 13849)
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles
• Experience developing automated test fixtures for production line validation
