Hemlock Public School District is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the next District Athletic Director. This individual will provide vision, leadership, and management for a comprehensive middle school and high school athletic program that reflects the values of our district and community.

The successful candidate will be a highly visible leader, an effective communicator, a relationship builder, and a champion for student-athletes. This position requires a professional who embraces high expectations, values teamwork, and understands that athletics are an extension of the educational experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Meet requirements for background check and fingerprinting.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in athletics, education, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Commitment to student growth, character development, and educational excellence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Michigan teaching or administrative certificate.
  • Athletic administration experience.
  • Coaching experience at the middle school, high school, or collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of MHSAA rules, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supervising, evaluating, and developing staff.

  • Possess strong technology skills and the ability to effectively utilize digital tools for scheduling, communication, event management, facility coordination, budgeting, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the athletic department's digital presence by overseeing websites, social media, photography, video, livestreaming, and other public-facing communication that promotes student achievement and reflects the district's brand and values.
  • Demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills while supporting coaches and staff in developing consistent, professional, and timely communication with families and the community.
  • Exercise sound judgment by knowing when to lead personally, when to delegate responsibilities, and how to empower others while maintaining accountability for results.
  • Collaborate effectively with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff to ensure student-athletes achieve success academically, socially, and athletically.
  • Create and continuously improve systems, procedures, and operational structures that increase efficiency, consistency, and long-term program sustainability.
  • Foster a culture built on sportsmanship, integrity, teamwork, service, respect, and excellence while modeling the highest standards of professionalism.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Hemlock Public School District by cultivating positive relationships with alumni, senior citizens, community organizations, visiting schools, and athletic partners, while supporting community engagement opportunities such as the district's senior walking program.
  • Represent Hemlock Public School District with professionalism, integrity, pride, and a relentless commitment to providing a world-class experience for every student-athlete, family, coach, official, and guest.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary administrator responsible for game and event management for all middle and high school athletic competitions.
  • Provide visionary leadership and oversight for all middle school and high school athletic programs.
  • Recruit, hire, develop, support, supervise, and evaluate coaching staff while fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all MHSAA regulations, district policies, and applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Coordinate athletic schedules, transportation, facilities, officials, game management, and event operations to ensure safe, efficient, and first-class experiences.
  • Oversee the management, scheduling, care, and continuous improvement of athletic facilities and venues while maximizing their use by students and the community.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, families, coaches, boosters, community partners, conference representatives, officials, and local organizations while serving as a positive ambassador for Hemlock Public School District.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and create a welcoming, world-class experience for student-athletes, families, visiting schools, officials, senior citizens, and community members at all athletic events and activities.
  • Support and oversee community engagement initiatives, including programs such as the district's senior walking program and other opportunities that strengthen connections between athletics and the community.
  • Demonstrate strong technology skills and effectively utilize digital platforms to improve communication, organization, scheduling, event management, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the athletic department's digital presence, including websites, social media, photography, video, livestreaming, and other public-facing communication, ensuring content is timely, accurate, engaging, and aligned with district branding.
  • Develop high-quality public communications that celebrate student-athletes, inform families, promote programs, and support district storytelling while empowering coaches and staff to communicate effectively and consistently.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in prioritizing work, delegating responsibilities appropriately, and building leadership capacity within the coaching staff and athletic department.
  • Oversee athletic department budgets, purchasing, fundraising coordination, and resource allocation while ensuring responsible stewardship of district resources.
  • Promote broad student participation, sportsmanship, leadership development, and positive educational experiences that place students at the center of every decision.
  • Support district initiatives and perform additional administrative responsibilities as assigned.

SALARY: Administrative non-bargaining unit position. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and assigned responsibilities. Minimum pay is $55,000, and the maximum will be defined by experience, credentials, and performance.
