Summary

Windover High, a Michigan charter alternative high school, seeks a dynamic Math and/or Science Teacher to join our team. We are open to hiring on a full-time or part-time basis. The ideal candidate will inspire students, develop rigorous curriculum, and maintain a supportive, engaging, and standards-aligned classroom environment, with a particular emphasis on effectively engaging and differentiating instruction for alternative education students who may require non-traditional approaches to learning. This may be an ideal opportunity for a retired or capable pre-certification candidate

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of the Math and/or Science Teacher include, but are not limited to, the following:

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Teach assigned courses in Mathematics (e.g., Algebra I/II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus) and/or Science (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science) at the high school level.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the diverse needs and learning styles of all students.
  • Customize and differentiate instruction to effectively engage students in an alternative education setting, which may include self-paced models, blended learning, or competency-based assessment.
  • Utilize effective and varied instructional methods, including laboratory work, project-based learning, and technology integration, to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Establish clear learning objectives and provide meaningful feedback to students on their progress.

Student Support and Alternative Education Focus

  • Work closely with students to assess and advance skills and competency.
  • Employ responsive teaching strategies to build positive relationships and foster student resilience.
  • Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and support staff to monitor student progress and implement individualized student success plans.
  • Provide targeted interventions and tutoring to help students achieve course completion and graduation requirements.

Assessment and Grading

  • Design, administer, and grade various assessments (quizzes, tests, projects, labs) to accurately measure student mastery of content standards.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential student records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Analyze student data to inform instruction and implement necessary interventions or enrichment.

Classroom Management and Professionalism

  • Create a positive, safe, and motivating classroom environment conducive to learning, emphasizing high expectations and mutual respect.
  • Establish and enforce clear expectations and procedures to maintain safe and productive learning environment
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with parents/guardians regarding student performance and behavior.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school-wide initiatives.

Compliance and State Requirements

  • Fulfill all continuing education and licensure requirements as mandated by the State of Michigan and the school.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of the charter school and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, or a related field is required.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsements in the assigned content area(s) is preferred. Candidates with significant content knowledge and experience pursuing alternative routes to certification will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expert-level knowledge of high school level Mathematics and/or Science concepts.
  • Proven experience or demonstrated passion for working with alternative education, at-risk, or non-traditional high school students.
  • Strong pedagogical skills in differentiating instruction and managing an inclusive classroom.
  • Excellent classroom management, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and ability to integrate it into instruction.
  • A strong commitment to collaboration and continuous professional growth.

Compensation and Schedule

  • Salary commensurate with experience, education, and full-time/part-time status.
  • Full-Time employees are eligible for the comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Part-Time compensation is pro-rated based on assigned teaching load.
