Job Details (Travel RN Contract)

• Job Title: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown / PCU / GMU
• Location: Kalamazoo, MI (Michigan travel nursing job)
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080/week
• Start Date: 03/23/2026
• End Date: 06/22/2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (extension may be available)
• Shift: Nights – 3x12s (19:00–07:30)
• Shift Length: 12-hour nights
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call: None
• Unit: General Medical Unit (GMU) – stepdown/general med with some oncology patient population
• Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:4–6 (commonly ~1:5 on nights/weekends; support staff available if ratios flex higher)
• Daily Census / Beds: ~29
• EMR: Epic (preferred)
• Equipment: Welch Allyn vital sign towers; Sigma IV pumps; BiPAP/CPAP
• Floating: May float to other med/surg areas (including AU and ER) to care for med/surg patients; travelers are first to float
• Scheduling Notes: Block scheduling may be accommodated with a specific request; weekends assigned by manager/scheduler and remaining shifts may be requested via self-scheduling

Job Requirements (RN Stepdown/PCU)

• Experience: 2 years of PCU/Stepdown experience (minimum 1 year RN experience required)
• License: Active Michigan RN license (required)
• Certifications:
  • BLS (AHA)
  • NIH / NIHSS
  • ONCC or ONS certification required (one required; ONC must be in hand ; pending ONS may be accepted )
• Clinical Skills:
  • Administering and monitoring chemotherapy via IV
  • Starting and maintaining IVs
  • Comfortable with stepdown-level monitoring and responding to changes in patient condition per unit protocols
• Flu Vaccine: Required – Medical Exemptions Only
• Availability: Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment

Responsibilities (Travel RN – Cardiac Stepdown/GMU)

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for stepdown/GMU patients with complex diagnoses including sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, heart failure, diabetes/DKA, and cancer-related conditions
• Administer and monitor IV chemotherapy per policy; assess for adverse reactions and communicate concerns per unit guidelines
• Perform focused assessments, continuous monitoring, and timely interventions for changes in patient condition in a high-acuity environment
• Initiate, maintain, and troubleshoot IV access and infusion therapies using unit-standard equipment (e.g., Sigma IV pumps)
• Document accurately and efficiently in Epic to support continuity of care and interdisciplinary communication
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary support services (PT, RT, pharmacy, radiology, phlebotomy, social services, rapid response teams, and more) to coordinate patient-centered care
• Float to designated med/surg areas as needed while maintaining unit standards, quality, and patient safety
