Travel RN - Med-Tele Position Summary

Marshfield Medical Center - Dickinson - Iron Mountain, MI

Key Position Details

• Shift: 12-hour Nights (19:00 - 07:00)
• Number of Positions: 1
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
• Orientation: 8 hours computer training + 12-hour shadow shift + independent day 3
• Trauma Level: Level 4 (Critical Access)

Unit Details

• Beds: 24 inpatient + up to 10 obs/day surgery patients
• Nurse:Patient Ratio:
  • Day shift: 5:1
  • Night shift: 6:1 (after 11pm when LPNs leave)
  • Team nursing with LPNs until 11pm: 2:7 ratios
• Telemetry: Basic monitoring at nurses' desk (done in ICU daily)
• Scrub Color: Solid professional colors, no specific color required

Required Qualifications & Experience

• MUST HAVE:
  • 1 year MS/MS-Tele experience in acute care setting
  • MUST be comfortable with IV starts (no IV team - limited resources)
  • Critical Access or Trauma Level 3/4 experience PREFERRED
  • Basic telemetry/arrhythmia knowledge required
• Certifications:
  • BLS (AHA) - required
  • ACLS - preferred
• License: Active MI or Compact RN license required at submission
• BSN: Not required

Patient Population & Clinical Skills

• Common Diagnoses:
  • NHP, cellulitis, UTI, COPD
  • GU issues, pacemakers, sepsis
  • Nursing home placements
  • Day surgery: Ortho (hips/knees), choles, appys, TURPS-CBI
• Pediatrics: Small population (3/year) - not assigned to travelers unless prior experience or no other option
• Preferred Skills:
  • TURPS-CBI experience/knowledge preferred
  • IV start proficiency (required - no IV team)
• Drip Titration: Not required
• RT Equipment: CPAP (RT available 24/7 but covers entire hospital)

Critical Access Hospital Context ⚠️

This is a Critical Access/Level 4 Trauma facility with LIMITED RESOURCES:

• No dedicated IV team
• RT covers entire hospital
• Must be self-sufficient and resourceful
• Hospitalist in-house until 6pm daily, then telemedicine coverage
• Experience in smaller, rural, or critical access hospitals strongly preferred

Staffing Support

• Charge Nurse: Yes, takes assignment (travelers could be relief charge)
• Nursing Assistants: Yes
• Hospitalist: In-house until 6pm, then telemedicine
• RT: Available 24/7 (covers entire facility)

Schedule Requirements

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (07:00-19:00 & 19:00-07:00)
• Self-Scheduling: Attempted but not guaranteed
• Block Scheduling: Can't guarantee, but consider longer blocks of 6 shifts when able
• Weekends: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday rotation)
• Holidays: 2 out of 3 holidays
• Call/Standby: Yes - opportunity/potential to be placed on call/standby
• Floating: MUST be able to float to like units and patients
• Time Clock: All clinicians must clock in and out at facility
