Nurse Assistant-Neuroscience-36 hr/ week-Days-Detroit

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN), performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient. Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education. The Nurse Assistant follows the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.

The unit is a 48-bed Medical Surgical Unit. The nurses on this unit are multi-faceted and able to support patients through many phases of care. These patients are often being treated for various diseases, conditions and injuries which can include post-surgical patients, patients with acute infectious diseases receiving intravenous antibiotic treatment, those with chronic conditions that are experiencing an exacerbation. We also provide care and comfort to patients requiring end of life support. One thing that makes our floor unique is that new nurses and seasoned nurses can join our team and gain knowledge and skills that will help them to adapt easily to change—a skill that is sure to help advance them in other positions on our unit or give them the experience to advance and thrive in other areas.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. CNA preferred. Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (titles for similar programs may vary; e.g., Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT) but perform the same job role.)

OR May be currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course.

OR Foreign trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States and does not hold a Michigan Rn license.

OR Medical Assistant program with OR without experience.

OR At least one (1) year of previous experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar job role.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.

Your day-to-day impact includes:

• Performing routine tasks such as measuring and recording vital signs, collecting and labeling specimens including blood draws, and performing venipuncture and chemsticks.
• Assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges as directed by the RN.
• Providing compassionate, hands-on personal care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, mobility, and comfort.
• Communicating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to support seamless care delivery.
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
