Location: Detroit, MI 48202
Schedule: Hybrid schedule with preferred in-office work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, plus optional remote work on Monday
Pay Rate: $21.00–$25.00/hour
Job Type: Temporary

A-Line Staffing is now hiring an Accounts Payable Specialist in Detroit, Michigan . This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional with strong accounts payable experience who is comfortable working in a fast-paced finance environment and supporting vendor payment operations, reconciliations, and expense tracking.

Position Summary

The Accounts Payable Specialist will be responsible for preparing, recording, verifying, and processing vendor invoices for goods and services in a timely and accurate manner. This person will also assist with improving accounting processes and supporting short-term finance projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare payment cover sheets and match approved purchase orders or executed contracts to invoices
• Verify coding and approvals to ensure accurate general ledger recording
• Follow up on missing approvals, discrepancies, or incomplete documentation
• Maintain accurate vendor records including EFT details, mailing information, W-9s, and other 1099-related documentation
• Enter invoices into the financial system and assist with check runs and ACH payments
• Help manage online banking payment activity, including positive pay processes
• Sort and triage incoming mail and resolve returned checks
• Complete monthly and quarterly reconciliations for accounts payable and employee advances
• Process journal entries related to expense reclasses and accruals
• Track vendor contract spend-downs
• Communicate with staff and vendors regarding invoice questions, payment issues, and expense reports
• Monitor recurring vendor and partner payments to ensure invoices are submitted and approved on time
• Ensure expenses are recorded in the proper accounting period
• Research and respond to payment and invoice inquiries from internal and external partners
• Support the finance team with additional short-term projects as needed

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
• 3–5 years of experience in a professional business setting
• Recent accounts payable experience required
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including:
• • XLOOKUPs
  • Pivot tables
  • SUMIF/SUMIFS
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
