Job purpose

The Plastic Extrusion Foreman is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the plastic extrusion department, ensuring that the production of plastic products is efficient, high-quality, and meets safety standards. This position requires leadership skills, technical knowledge in plastic extrusion processes, and the ability to effectively manage production staff.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Leadership :

· Lead and supervise a team of extrusion operators and technicians.

· Coordinate and assign daily work tasks to extrusion operators.

· Train and develop new and existing team members in extrusion processes, equipment, and safety procedures.

· Monitor and enforce safety standards and protocols to ensure a safe working environment.

· Ensure team members follow quality standards and production deadlines.

• Production & Equipment Management :

· Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of extrusion machines and related equipment.

· Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the extrusion process, including equipment malfunctions or production delays.

· Ensure all equipment is in proper working order and conduct routine inspections to identify any maintenance needs.

· Maintain accurate records of machine performance, downtime, and production output.

· Implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve product quality.

• Quality Control & Compliance :

· Monitor the quality of plastic products throughout the production process, ensuring they meet customer specifications and industry standards.

· Perform visual and mechanical inspections of finished products.

· Maintain compliance with all company policies, industry regulations, and environmental standards.

· Coordinate with the quality control team to address any quality issues promptly.

• Reporting & Documentation :

· Maintain production logs, reports, and other documentation related to daily operations.

· Communicate regularly with upper management regarding production status, machine performance, and personnel issues.

· Report any major production delays or concerns to the Production Manager.

• Continuous Improvement :

· Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.

· Work with other departments (e.g., maintenance, quality control) to ensure smooth operations across the production floor.

Authorities of this position include:

• Discontinue any operation or activity which is unsafe. Request and/or work with the appropriate personnel to resolve the issue immediately.
• Work with Quality to revise/update paperwork to manufacture 100% quality parts.
• Assign production technicians to work areas as needed.
• Discontinue manufacturing a part that does not have proper paperwork or documentation.
• Manage personnel to:

• Guarantee safety
• Enforce quality standards
• Meet production requirements

Qualifications

Education/Experience :

· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification preferred

· Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in plastic extrusion or a similar manufacturing environment.

· Proven leadership experience in a production or manufacturing setting.

· Knowledge of extrusion processes, machinery, and troubleshooting.

Skills:

• Strong leadership and team management skills

• Good understanding of production scheduling and resource management
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and quality control standards
