Position Title: Mobile Crisis Specialist
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Location: Community
Position Type: 2-10:30pm or 3-11:30pm M-F
Reports to: COPE Team Lead
Summary:
This position promotes the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of Neighborhood Service Organization and helps to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of the unit. The Crisis Specialist will engage and assess members experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. The Mobile Crisis Specialist will assess each member face to face to determine the appropriate level of care.
Responsibilities:
- Complete face to face Pre-Admission Review (PAR) screening to determine appropriate level of care for adults experiencing a behavioral health crisis, considering least restrictive environment.
- Communicate with diversion resources such as Crisis stabilization units and Partial Hospitalization Programs.
- Coordinate level of care disposition with hospital staff such as Nurse/Social Worker.
- Ongoing interaction with COPE team leads and COPE dispatch with PAR outcomes.
- Complete assigned Pre-Admission Review within required time limits.
- Formulate pre-liminary DSM-V diagnosis
- Identify issues that may exist regarding safety (personal and environmental), suicide risk, natural supports, and community involvement
- Obtain information for coordination of care, including primary care physician, past treatment episodes, emergency and significant support persons, court, and school related contacts
- Utilize motivational interviewing and or other engagement/communication tools and techniques to motivate consumers and their family /significant others to trust and participate in the COPE service.
- Utilize knowledge of the community’s behavioral health services networks to assist consumers in obtaining services that suit his/her individual medical, psychiatric and social support needs
- Ensure participants are informed of support and emergency services available
- Demonstrate ability to observe, evaluate, accurately document and report facts.
- Coordinate appointments with COPE programs/services, as applicable such as intensive crisis stabilization appointments.
- Ensure transportation is arranged for consumers, as needed, to community-based supportive, adjunctive services.
- Consult with psychiatrist or nurse upon the identification of a non-emergent medical condition
Ongoing Professional Skills
- Maintain a working knowledge of community resources of Wayne County’s mental health system.
- Demonstrate organizational skills and ability to work with consumers with various acute needs.
- Demonstrate ability to meet timeliness and quality of service requirements.
- Ability to use Word, email, internet navigation, and the assigned EHR at a proficient level to meet efficient daily operation’s needs, with demonstrated ability to learn new computer software programs.
- Document services per policy and procedure, with legible entries, using only approved abbreviations and error correction processes per policy.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual of the Employer.
- Participate in meetings as scheduled
- Engage in developing innovative approaches and takes steps to increase knowledge, skills, and abilities, both from within and outside NSO (Neighborhood Service Organization).
- Maintain collegial, cooperative relationships with peers, supervisors, and other staff. Maintain professional conduct in community.
- Report all Recipient Rights complaints and knowledge of potential complaints to the Employer’s assigned designee within 24 hours of said knowledge.
- Ability to be flexible within the hospital setting.
- Follow all directives provided by Program Manager/COPE Team Leads.
- Able to analyze information, use sound judgment and make independent decisions in specific areas of responsibility.
- Report to COPE Team Lead all referred clinical cases that are outside the scope of your expertise, experience, or in which countertransference issues might jeopardize the consumer’s clinical outcome.
- Maintain confidentiality per federal guidelines and the policy and procedures of the Employer.
- Complies with contractual and regulatory requirements
- Shall demonstrate critical knowledge of diagnostics utilizing DSM-V, psychopharmacology, and supportive treatment approaches as applied to a severely mentally ill (SMI) adult population
- Shall demonstrate knowledge of the identification and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders
- Shall show a commitment to the Recovery Model, person centered approach.
Additional Skills : In addition to documented educational training, the Mobile Crisis Specialist shall have provided direct treatment services to adults in a behavioral health inpatient or outpatient setting for not less than 12 months, of which at least 6 months’ time was spent working with adults with co-occurring disorders.
Candidate Requirements:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university,
- specializing in psychology, social work, or counseling.
- Must be licensed as an LLMSW, LMSW, LP, LLP, LLPC or LPC by the State of Michigan and maintain licensure.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
