Boiler Operator

Job Description

The Boiler Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation, monitoring, and routine maintenance of boiler systems and associated equipment to ensure uninterrupted facility operations. On a daily basis, the operator begins the shift by receiving a turnover from the previous shift, reviewing what occurred overnight and identifying any abnormal operating conditions. The operator then performs routine rounds throughout the facility, often driving between multiple buildings to inspect boilers, piping, valves, pumps, and auxiliary equipment, ensuring systems look and sound normal. After completing rounds, the operator returns to the boiler room to collect and analyze boiler water and makeup water samples, monitor system performance, and make necessary adjustments to maintain proper pressure, temperature, and water levels. The role also includes performing minor repairs and light maintenance tasks, responding to alarms or system abnormalities, and maintaining accurate operating logs and documentation. Throughout the shift, the Boiler Operator supports plant reliability while complying with safety, environmental, and company standards and communicates key information during shift turnover.

Skills and Requirements

• 3-7+ years' experience in operating industrial or commercial boiler systems

o Working knowledge of steam, hot water, chemistry

• Ability to read gauges, blueprints, and technical manuals

• Basic mechanical, electrical and troubleshooting skills - Boilers License or Journeyman License
