Job Summary:
A Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining trucks, heavy equipment, and semis to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. This role involves using specialized tools, technical knowledge, and problem-solving skills to keep these vehicles and equipment in optimal working condition.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Inspection and Diagnosis:
- Perform thorough inspections to identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues.
- Use diagnostic tools and procedures to pinpoint problems accurately.
2. Repair and Maintenance:
- Conduct repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, and other mechanical components.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
- Service and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, hoses, and cylinders.
- Welding and fabrication work for structural repairs and modifications.
3. Electrical and Electronic Systems:
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic systems, including wiring, sensors, and control modules.
- Repair and maintain lighting, navigation, and communication systems.
4. Record Keeping:
- Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed on each vehicle or piece of equipment.
5. Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all vehicles and equipment meet safety and environmental standards and regulations.
- Perform safety inspections and report any safety concerns.
6. Parts Procurement:
- Order, source, and manage the inventory of necessary replacement parts and materials.
7. Teamwork:
- Collaborate with other mechanics and technicians to solve complex issues.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
**Qualifications:**
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and tools.
- Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance procedures.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
