Position Overview

System One LLC is seeking a Substation Design Drafter to support substation and power delivery projects from our Farmington Hills, Michigan office (Detroit metro area). This is an excellent opportunity for entry-level or early-career drafters who are eager to develop technical expertise in the substation industry while working alongside experienced senior designers and engineers.

The ideal candidate will bring strong drafting fundamentals and a willingness to learn in a collaborative, in-office environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and revise substation drawing packages under the guidance of senior designers and engineers

• Produce detailed physical layout drawings including plan views, elevations, and sections

• Assist with preparation of:

  • General arrangements

  • Electrical equipment layouts

  • Conduit and cable routing drawings

  • Grounding layouts

  • Bill of materials and drawing revisions

• Maintain drawing standards and document control procedures

• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including electrical engineers and project managers

• Participate in quality review processes to ensure accuracy and constructability

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Drafting, CAD Technology, or related field preferred

• Experience with AutoCAD (AutoCAD Electrical experience is a plus)

• Internship, academic project, or early professional experience in utility, power delivery, or substation drafting is preferred but not required

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Willingness to learn and grow within the substation design field

• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment with regular in-office collaboration
