Job Description
Join a small, laid-back manufacturing team as a Saw Operator, where you will set up and operate a variety of saws and CNC equipment to cut materials to precise specifications. You will handle material picking, loading, and programming of machines, while supporting general warehouse activities and contributing to a safe, clean, and efficient production environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of saws, including computer numerical control (CNC) panel saws, table saws, shears, adjustable circular saws, band saws, and hand saws to process materials according to work orders.
- Select appropriate saw blades based on the type of material and the cut requirements specified on work orders.
- Pick materials using a sit-down forklift, transport them to the machine, place them properly, and load them onto the saw or CNC equipment.
- Program and operate CNC saws using programmable displays to set up cutting parameters and execute precise cuts.
- Establish cutting parameters to achieve maximum quality and consistency in finished parts.
- Pull stock from storage locations, restock materials after cutting, and remove cut stock from machines while maintaining accurate production counts.
- Measure cut materials using rulers, tape measures, calipers, or squares to verify dimensions against specifications and ensure quality standards.
- Use a computer or barcode scanner to enter records, track material movement, and help control inventory levels.
- Maintain a sharpening and repair schedule for saw blades according to company processes, ensuring tools remain in optimal condition.
- Perform preventative and routine maintenance on saws and related equipment as needed or as outlined in work instructions.
- Follow established safe work practices, including Lock-out/Tag-out procedures, and maintain a safe, organized working area.
- Perform general warehouse duties, including packaging products using proper techniques and methods to protect items during shipping as noted in quality work instructions.
- Use the company barcode labeling system to store materials using correct identification numbers and ensure accurate inventory labeling.
- Drive a forklift to move materials within the warehouse and production floor safely and efficiently.
- Support company quality and safety procedures and requirements for warehouse and production operations.
- Participate in company-wide inventory counts and assist with related inventory control activities.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, a strong willingness to work, and a desire to transition into a long-term hire within the organization.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with a small production team to maintain a positive, productive, and cohesive work environment.
Essential Skills
- Experience operating CNC machines, particularly CNC panel saws, or strong interest and aptitude to learn CNC operation.
- Hands-on experience with saw operation, including table saws, band saws, and other cutting equipment.
- Ability to operate a sit-down forklift (hi-lo) safely to pick, move, and stage materials.
- Proficiency using measuring tools such as tape measures, rulers, calipers, and squares to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy.
- Familiarity with basic machine operation and production processes in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
- Ability to use programmable displays on CNC saws to set up and cut materials according to specifications.
- Comfort using computers or barcode scanners to enter data, track materials, and support inventory control.
- Understanding of safe work practices in a production environment, including Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
- Capability to perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment following work instructions.
- Ability to follow written work orders, quality work instructions, and company procedures accurately.
- Strong attendance, reliability, and willingness to work consistently within scheduled hours.
- Ability to work effectively in a small team environment and build positive working relationships on the production floor.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in plastics manufacturing or working with similar materials.
- Experience using drill presses or other basic shop equipment.
- Experience in general warehouse operations, including packaging, shipping preparation, and material handling.
- Experience participating in inventory counts and supporting inventory control processes.
- Comfort working in a casual, small-company environment where flexibility and teamwork are highly valued.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new equipment, processes, and company procedures as needed.

Work Environment
This position follows a 1st shift schedule, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in a laid-back and clean production and warehouse environment. The dress code is casual, with closed-toe shoes required for safety. You will work on a production floor with a small group of teammates, using equipment such as CNC panel saws, table saws, shears, adjustable circular saws, band saws, hand saws, drill presses, forklifts, computers, and barcode scanners. The facility emphasizes safe work practices, including Lock-out/Tag-out procedures, and maintains organized work areas. The atmosphere is relaxed yet focused on quality, safety, and teamwork, offering a comfortable setting for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and collaboration.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
