Automotive Cost Engineer

Location: Auburn Hills, MI

We are hiring an Automotive Cost Engineer for a full-time opportunity in Auburn Hills, MI. This Cost Engineer role is ideal for candidates with strong experience in automotive components, manufacturing processes, and cost analysis who can evaluate how parts are designed, built, assembled, and tested. We are seeking an experienced Automotive Cost Engineer with hands-on knowledge in one or more core product areas including electrical systems, body, interior, propulsion systems, suspension, steering, HVAC, or engine/driveline components.

Responsibilities

• Develop cost estimates for automotive components and assemblies using manufacturing and process knowledge
• Analyze cost drivers including material, labor, tooling, machining, casting, stamping, molding, welding, assembly, and testing
• Review drawings, CAD, BOMs, and component details to support cost modeling and feasibility analysis
• Support should-cost, design-to-cost, and cost comparison activities across vehicle systems
• Work with engineering, purchasing, suppliers, and operations teams to identify cost gaps and optimization opportunities
• Evaluate supplier quotes, manufacturing methods, and process assumptions
• Contribute to cost analysis for parts across body, chassis, interior, propulsion, electrical systems, HVAC, and engine/driveline categories
  

Qualifications

• Experience as a Cost Engineer , Manufacturing Engineer, Product Engineer, Design Release Engineer, or similar automotive engineering role
• Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes and component cost drivers
• Experience in one or more of the following:
• • Electrical systems: sensors, switches, displays, clusters, batteries, starter motors, amplifiers, speakers, infotainment hardware, PCBs, harnesses, electronic assembly
  • Body systems: stampings, welded assemblies, exterior panels, glazing, sealing, CAD/drawing interpretation
  • Interior systems: injection molding, painting, chroming, wrapping, cut and sew, plastic welding, decorative finishes, soft-touch components
  • Propulsion systems: e-motors, inverters, DC-DC converters, onboard chargers, pumps, throttle bodies, engine blocks, cylinder heads, oil pans, axles, transfer cases
  • Chassis / HVAC / steering: suspension components, steering systems, compressors, heat pumps, HVAC and thermal modules
    
• Experience discussing how components are designed, manufactured, assembled, and tested
• Automotive supplier or Tier 1 / Tier 2 experience is strongly preferred
