A Brake Press Operator is responsible for setting up and operating a press brake machine to bend, cut, and form metal sheets or plates according to specifications. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of blueprints and technical drawings to produce high-quality parts.
Responsibilities
Set Up and Operation:
Set up and operate press brake machines (manual, hydraulic, or CNC) to bend, punch, and cut metal materials.
Select and install appropriate tooling (dies and punches) based on material type, thickness, and desired bend angles.
Adjust machine settings (e.g., tonnage, back gauge, bend allowance) to ensure accurate and consistent bends.
Reading and Interpretation:
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine material requirements, bend sequences, and finished product dimensions.
Understand and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) as required.
Quality Control:
Inspect finished parts for defects, accuracy, and adherence to specifications using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, protractors, micrometers).
Perform in-process quality checks and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards.
Document inspection results and report any non-conforming products.
Maintenance and Safety:
Perform routine maintenance on the press brake machine, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor troubleshooting.
Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Material Handling:
Safely load and unload materials onto and from the press brake machine, often using overhead cranes or forklifts (if certified).
Manage material flow to ensure efficient production.
Collaboration:
Work effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to meet production targets and deadlines.
Communicate any issues or concerns regarding equipment, materials, or quality.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical school or vocational training in machining, metal fabrication, or a related field is a plus.
Experience:
Proven experience as a Brake Press Operator, preferably with [X years] of experience.
Experience with [specific types of press brakes, e.g., CNC Amada, Bystronic, Trumpf] is highly desirable.
Familiarity with various metal types (e.g., steel, stainless steel, aluminum) and their properties.
Skills:

Solid understanding of bend deduction, K-factor, and tonnage requirements.
Basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certifications (Optional but beneficial):
Forklift certification.
Overhead crane certification.
Physical Demands
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move materials up to [25-40 lbs] frequently.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels and varying temperatures.
