Early Literacy Coach

Calendar: Per Teacher Contract

Hours: School Day based on teacher contract

Salary: Based on teacher contract (Grant funded)

This position is for a full-time early literacy coach who will spend a minimum of 60% of their time in classrooms working with teachers and students. This position also may require training during the summer and throughout the school year and is dependent on grant funds.

Description:

  • Model, support, and provide initial and ongoing professional development for teachers.
  • Provide coaching and professional learning in the 5 major reading components: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension
  • Utilize the research based GELN’s Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy: K-3
  • Provide professional development that enables analyzing instructional assessments.
  • Provide professional development to address differentiated instruction utilizing the various resources provided by the district.
  • Train staff on the effective use of progress monitoring
  • Follow the MDE model of Early Literacy Coaching and Student-Centered Model to guide effective coaching practices.
  • Attending all required training including, but not limited to Literacy Essentials, LETRS, and other literacy training.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Valid teacher certification
  • Knowledge of current state literacy standards for students in grades K-3
  • Experience working with adult learners.
  • Positive mindset
  • Strong organizational skills.
    • Understanding of the use of formative screening and diagnostic tools within a multi-tiered support system to determine individual progress for students reading at grade level by the end of grade 3.
    • Advanced coursework in reading or have completed professional development in research-based literacy instructional strategies.
  • Special expertise in quality reading instruction as well as infusing literacy strategies into content areas
  • Proficient in instructional technology practices specifically at K-3 level.
  • Strong understanding of using IRIP’s to improve reading proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Reading specialist endorsement
  • Professional development experience as a presenter
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Curriculum development skills Experience teaching K-3
