Summary:
We are seeking a part-time Title/At Risk Paraprofessional to join our team at Coloma Intermediate School. The ideal candidate will work closely with students to provide support and assistance in the classroom, helping them to achieve their academic and personal goals. Under direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher, the Title IA/Paraprofessional performs a variety of tasks assisting in the development of an instructional program by working with students individually or in small/large groups; prepares instructional materials, maintains classroom discipline, and conducts planned activities using teacher designated methods and materials.
Responsibilities:
Contributing toward a positive, professional working and learning environment by:
- Assisting classroom teacher or Title I teacher in implementation of learning experiences of all students, conferring with teacher to provide feedback on student performance, student progress, and testing activities
- Making the well-being of students the fundamental value in the decision-making process
- Coordinating with the classroom teacher to discuss assigned duties in order to maximize instructional activities
- Assisting in the instruction of students in group or one-on-one settings, often without direct teacher supervision; adjusting and revising teaching strategies during instructional activity as necessary to best support all students to reach mastery
- Assisting the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities
- Ability to provide for the identified physical needs of students
- Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff, including but not limited to protecting the rights of all students as guaranteed by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) while interacting with all people, internal or external, in a courteous, polite manner
- Ability to accurately monitor and track student progress and communicate with parents and teachers as needed in a professional, positive manner with documentation of student progress and interventions
- Establishing and maintaining a collaborative relationship with school staff to create a positive learning environment and promote student success
- Attend meetings and professional development opportunities as required
- Assist in monitoring classroom management in accordance with district and board policy, while following district discipline procedures
- Supervising students in and outside of the classroom with an understanding of and supporting a safe learning environment
- Ability to assist with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, lunch, recess, hall duty and school buses as required
- Assist with large group activities including, but not limited to, drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling
- Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of oral communication with students
- Ability to provide remedial instructional activities in math and reading for students, as directed by Title I Teacher or Classroom Teacher
- Serve as chief of information and assistance to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
- Being alert to and reporting any possibility of substance abuse, child abuse, or other dangerous situation based on daily observation
- Performing all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed by supervisors
- Operating and caring for all school district property properly Perform such other tasks which fall within the allowability of the grants that fund the position (Title I, Part A; Section 31a (Michigan))

Requirements: - Must have one of the following:
- Associates Degree
- 60+ Credits
- Passed the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment with a core of 460+
- SAT Score of 480+ (reading & writing) & 530+ (math)
- Previously passed MTCC, Workkeys, ACT or MME
Requirements Continued:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some college coursework preferred)
- Experience working with students, either in a school or other setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain necessary clearances as required by the school district
