Manufacturing Process Engineer – CNC & Machining Operations
Overview:
Seeking a motivated and experienced engineer to support the design, setup, and optimization of CNC, lathe, and milling operations within a high-precision manufacturing environment. This role will play a key part in the launch of new production lines, process improvements, and capital equipment planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with project and program teams to support new product launches
Design production cells with a focus on safety, ergonomics, and operator efficiency
Optimize floor layouts to reduce footprint and increase productivity per square foot
Define capital equipment and tooling needs for quoting and procurement activities
Approve technical drawings and engineering changes for new programs
Conduct feasibility reviews and risk assessments on new business opportunities
Source and coordinate installation of machinery and tools for new operations
Establish efficient processes to meet scrap and performance targets
Manage capital and tooling budgets, ensuring adherence throughout project execution
Participate in customer meetings related to product launches and quality planning
Lead production validation activities such as run-at-rate events
Document all manufacturing processes, including operator training materials
Continuously seek opportunities to improve yield and reduce waste
Support engineering changes and implement updates for capacity or cost improvements
Maintain and revise plant and cell layouts as needed
Develop and maintain PFMEAs and collaborate with quality to implement control plans
Draft clear work instructions for shop floor personnel
Contribute to changeover optimization and support continuous improvement projects
Help establish and maintain 5S standards within production areas
Occasional travel may be required to support customer or supplier sites
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools)
Strong background in CNC machining, milling, and lathe operations
Experience in hot or cold forming processes
Familiarity with flow forming processes is a plus
Knowledge of takt time, capacity planning, and lean manufacturing practices
Experience with industrial automation (e.g., Fanuc, Allen Bradley, Siemens)
Understanding of 5S principles and continuous improvement tools
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
ERP system experience (Plex or equivalent) preferred
Strong communication and organizational skills
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and pass standard pre-employment screenings
