POSITION SUMMARY:
KidStop is looking for an energetic, caring, and responsible team member who loves working with children in a fast-paced, fun environment. This position is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging experience for children in our drop-in babysitting program while their parents participate in Y activities.
You will build positive relationships with children and families by leading games, music, movement, and play activities. Additional responsibilities include supporting children with snacks and bottles, tidying and sanitizing play spaces, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide excellent member service by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Actively listen to parents and children to build trusting relationships.
- Serve as a positive role model, reflecting the YMCA’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Ensure safety by following Y policies and procedures at all times.
- Lead fun, age-appropriate activities to keep children engaged.
- Support parent communication and involvement in their child’s experience.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized play space.
- Complete required trainings and certifications to ensure high-quality care.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the KidStop Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 16 years of age.
- Experience working with children ages 6 months–10 years
- CPR and First Aid Certification (training available through the YMCA if not already certified).
- Completion of online Child Abuse Prevention training within first week of employment.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to build positive connections with children and parents.
- Strong communication skills and a caring, nurturing approach.
- Enjoyment of working in an energetic, child-centered setting.
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions clearly.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to move quickly to ensure child safety.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
