Accounting Associate

Location: Oakland County, Michigan
Reports to: Accounting Manager / Controller
Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role

Our client is a well-established manufacturing/industrial company (in business for over 40 years) seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Associate to join their finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing incoming invoices, managing accounts receivable, assisting with job closing, and will play a key role in supporting our transition to a new ERP system (moving from JobBOSS to Epicor).

Key Responsibilities

• Process, code, and enter incoming vendor invoices in a timely manner.
• Review invoices for accuracy, proper approvals, and completeness.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Maintain the accounts receivable ledger; generate and send invoices to customers.
• Track payments, follow up on past due accounts, and ensure collections.
• Assist in job cost closing activities, including ensuring all costs are captured, reconciled, and jobs are closed properly.
• Prepare monthly reconciliations relating to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and job cost.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.
• Assist with system/data clean-up and migration tasks tied to the ERP transition to Epicor.
• Collaborate with production, project, purchasing and other internal departments to gather needed documentation and verify costs.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation; ensure compliance with company policies and relevant accounting principles.
• Ad hoc reporting and special projects as needed.

Requirements / Qualifications

• 2-4 years of accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Proficient with JobBOSS or similar job cost / job tracking software is a plus.
• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and job closing / cost accounting.
• Familiarity or willingness to learn Epicor ERP.
• Strong attention to detail; highly organized.
• Good problem-solving skills; ability to resolve invoice discrepancies and handle aged AR.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work within deadlines (month-end, job close, reporting).
• Solid knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and internal controls.
• Strong Excel skills; experience with other accounting / ERP software is a plus.
• High integrity; able to handle confidential information.
