This position works out of our Sturgis, MI location in the Abbott Nutrition division. What You'll Work On
The Maintenance Engineering Tech leads and coordinates mechanical maintenance to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production. The role focuses on troubleshooting equipment issues, preventing recurrence, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve performance. This position directly affects plant productivity, product quality, and regulatory compliance, including equipment change control.

Ensure all EHS and quality standards are adhered on assigned shift.

Support the Maintenance FLL with driving the completion of mechanical work orders.

Be the main point of contact for mechanical items on shift.

Lead maintenance team on shift when FLL is not in the plant.

Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment reliability issues as they arise.

Organize and supervise the planned shutdown activities for all production equipment.

Assure shift coordination and follow-through on daily problems.

Coordinate and analyze maintenance related production problems and performance shortfalls with corresponding maintenance corrective and preventive action.

Participate in cross-functional problems solving exercises (ie. RCA's, LSS projects, training)

Train and develop new mechanics/electricians.

Routinely analyze equipment problems, evaluate repair alternatives, and decide on appropriate courses of action.

Direct mechanics or electricians to resolve maintenance related items.

Routinely evaluate operations by visually observing operating conditions.

Routine emergency and preventive maintenance on buildings, grounds and equipment is accomplished directly and generally without upper management review.

Special projects within these areas are reviewed with upper management for guidance on specifications, cost, etc.
You'll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED
-
2-5 years of experience as a mechanic

In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems

Good communication skills both written and verbal
-
Strong technical and leadership skills

Supervisory experience
