ATHLETIC TRAINER
Provide first aid and emergency care, and apply protective or injury-preventive devices, such as tape, bandages, and braces.
Develop and implement comprehensive injury prevention strategies and conditioning programs to ensure timely and effective outcomes.
Develop individualized health and fitness programs to complement the athlete's resources and available equipment.
Educate athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and wellness.
Design and implement personalized rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
Manage prescription refills, triage patient calls, and respond to inquiries as appropriate.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and physicians to improve outcomes and ensure all responsibilities are followed to support athletes.
Assist athletes, families, and physicians with any concerns related to care coordination and progress, ensuring effective communication across all involved parties.
Administrative
Maintain detailed and accurate records of athlete health, treatments plans, and progress. Collect data to assist in assessments and treatment planning. Ensure accountability for all patient care assignments, including proper documentation and charging for interventions.
Communication with leader on necessary revisions to sports medicine budgets, inventory supplies, and prepare for events. Remove malfunctioning equipment from service, label it, and report issues.
Keep physicians informed of any significant changes in the athlete�s condition, treatment progress, or new concerns. Maintain confidentiality of patient and athlete information in accordance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.
Actively participate in continuing education and professional development activities, ensuring that skills remain current.
Follow infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
Participates in staff meetings, in-service programs and continuing education activities as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education/Experience Bachelor�s degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, or related field from an accredited institution, or completion of an NATA-accredited Athletic Trainer Education or Internship Program.
Current licensure in the State of Michigan as an Athletic Trainer.
BLS certification required within six (6) months as a new hire or internal transfer.
Certification as an Exercise Leader by the American College of Sports Medicine or credentialing in Health & Fitness Program Leadership by a nationally recognized agency preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to adapt to various working environments, such as fields, gyms, and offices.
Must possess a calm demeanor in emergency situations and respond quickly and effectively to incidents requiring medical attention.
Demonstrate self-responsibility for professional practice and seek guidance when necessary to ensure high-quality care.
Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, as well as understanding how they interact with other departments in the organization.
Ability to apply medical terminology, understand CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding, and work with office computer systems.
Familiarity with medical billing, third-party insurance claims, and follow-up processes.
Basic typing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a range of individuals.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team in both small and large group settings.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Travel with athletes to various events, which may include local or out-of-town trips, and support during games or competitive events, as needed.
Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Occasional sitting, walking, talking and hearing, , stooping, kneeling, and squatting.
Constant standing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stoop/kneel/crouch, twisting, reaching.
Constant near vision, far vision, depth perception, color vision and field of vision.
Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
Occasional lifting up to 100 pounds.
