Environmental Health & Safety Specialist | Rockford, MI

Salary Range: $62,000 - $95,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
• Conduct regular EHS inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and non-compliance.
• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures specific to manufacturing operations.
• Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Provide EHS training to employees on topics such as hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and emergency response.
• Manage hazardous waste, wastewater, and air emission programs, ensuring proper handling, disposal, and permitting.
• Monitor key EHS performance indicators, prepare reports, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• 3-5 years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in OSHA, EPA, and applicable state/local EHS regulations.
• Proven experience developing, implementing, and managing EHS programs (e.g., LOTO, confined space, hazard communication, waste management).
• Ability to conduct EHS inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analysis.
• Strong communication, training, and presentation skills across all organizational levels.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 management systems, including internal auditing.
• Proficiency with EHS management software platforms (e.g., Gensuite, Intelex, Sphera).
• Progress towards professional certifications such as CSP or CIH.
• Experience applying Lean principles or continuous improvement methodologies to EHS processes.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver engaging EHS training programs for diverse audiences.
