Full Time - System Dispatcher

Electric Department - U.W.U.A. Local 482

JOB SUMMARY

This is complex work in dispatching, power outage control, customer life support coordination, answering service coordination, Miss Dig marking system coordination, system electric mapping and providing assistance to Operations Supervisors. This position requires the ability to multi-task in stressful situations and to relay critical information in a calm and precise manner.

Daily work involves maintaining databases and spreadsheets, relaying information from various City online sources via email or other electronic methods, using radio receiving/sending equipment, telephone, copier, and other office equipment.

Work is performed under general supervision of the System Planning and Procurement Supervisor, with responsibilities in maintaining/creating accurate records from radio transmissions, telephone, in person, and by electronic media. Maintaining and updating dispatch procedural documents.

ILLUSTRATIVE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives and transmits work crews' assignments and additional information via radio; maintains required transmission logs received and sent and update of crew locations.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining computer-based software work order system.
  • Monitors maintain and update a computer-based program for meter installs, removals and other related events.
  • Maintains customer life support records.
  • Maintains an electronic customer list of Shut accounts and System outages and related Tree issues.
  • Assists with walk-in requests from customers for distribution, vegetation, or metering questions.
  • Coordinates answering service with weekly call-out personnel for after normal work hours, weekends and during system power outages.
  • Assists during power outages after normal work hours and weekends when needed. Submits requests and coordinates orders for Miss Dig to appropriate parties and maintains records.
  • Assists in implementing and maintaining computerized mapping system and related records.
  • Assists Operation Supervisors with work orders, project records and contractor coordination.
  • Daily record of employee call outs, Trouble Truck calls and verification of after-hours calls to be completed if they were not called out to the Trouble Truck.
  • Create and maintain Trouble Truck assignments for the calendar year
  • Maintain current employee information including emergency contact information
  • Answer the main telephone line and assist customers with requests or issues.
  • Maintain log of each call, walk-in, radio communication, meter shut/restore, Miss Dig, email request, and online ticket submission. Requests or issues are dispatched to appropriate crew, schedule work orders for crews, forwards to appropriate Supervisor, or to another City department.
  • Maintain accurate records of tree trimming or removal requests and completed tree work.
  • Informs other City departments of electric operations when needed
  • Complete outage reports to submit to e-reliability as well as internal monthly reporting of vegetation, street/security lighting, meter shuts/restores, and outage information.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUIM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Ability to:

  • Ability to work with other employees and the public, with an emphasis on customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively, clearly, and concisely.

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree is preferred, or four (4) years of equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with various databases is preferred.
  • Above average keyboarding ability.
