Summary This vacancy is for a WG - 2805-10,Electrician located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION DETACHMENT SAULT STE MARIE in SAULT STE MARIE, Michigan. Responsibilities The position provides support of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Industrial Production Facility, Industrial Operations Division, which includes the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment in industrial, institutional, office, and residential building, and on ships. Typical work assignments include: Installing, modifying, repairing, loading and testing systems, circuits, equipment and controls with little or no check during the progress or upon completion of the work. Interpreting and applying the National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and uses trade formulas to calculate common properties e.g., voltage, voltage drop and current capability in series and parallel circuits. Determining location of existing electrical devices and service entrances and placing new ones. Planning and laying out work, tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems, and completing repairs and installations. Installing, modifying, repairing, and maintaining electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Qualifications To qualify for the WG-2805-10, applicants must meet the following screen-out job element to be considered for this position: Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability To Use Electrical Drawings Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work Trouble shooting (electrical) Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. In addition applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the position typical duties are: "Skill in troubleshooting and repairing equipment, in marine (maritime), industrial, institutional, or commercial settings, providing the full range of electrical support in the areas of installation, diagnosis, repairing of electrical wiring, pulling of wires, and all other preventative maintenance. Have repaired/troubleshoot/diagnosis marine (maritime) generators(genset) and Transformers."
