Job Title: Finishing Technician
Job Description

The Finishing Technician plays a key role as the final step in constructing trailers before shipment. This position receives trailers from the paint department and completes all remaining assembly tasks, including installing mechanical components, routing lines, and applying decals and reflectors. Working in a two-person team on the finish line, you will either focus on installing airlines, hoses, wiring, and exterior components, or perform air brake and hub service to ensure each trailer leaves the facility fully assembled, safe, and ready for delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Receive painted trailer structures and complete final assembly to prepare units for shipment.
  • Install brake lines and wiring components using a kit-based assembly list, similar to following step-by-step instructions for a pre-packaged assembly.
  • Route and secure airlines, rubber hoses, and electrical wiring along the trailer frame according to established procedures.
  • Install and connect lights, stickers, decals, and reflectors on the trailer exterior to meet quality and safety standards.
  • Screw and secure axles onto the base of the trailer using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Use basic hand tools and power tools, including pneumatic tools, to assemble and fasten components safely and efficiently.
  • Work as part of a two-person finish line team, coordinating tasks between the finish installer and air brake technician functions.
  • As an air brake technician or mechanic, remove and clean hubs, replace slack adjusters, brake chambers, and brake shoes as required.
  • Remove and install new bearings and bushings in hubs, then torque bearings using the proper torque procedures and specifications.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions, assembly lists, and standard operating procedures accurately and consistently.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work station, including sweeping and basic housekeeping to support a safe work environment.
  • Lift and move components weighing 50 pounds or more as part of daily assembly and installation tasks.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and use tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented environment by communicating effectively with coworkers and assisting as needed to meet production goals.
Essential Skills
  • 1–2 years of consistent job tenure demonstrating reliability and commitment.
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and ratchets.
  • Proficiency with power tools, including drills and other powered fastening tools.
  • Ability to use pneumatic tools safely and effectively in a fabrication or assembly environment.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds consistently throughout the shift.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with assembly work in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and assembly lists accurately.
  • Willingness to work as part of a two-person team on the finish line.
  • Ability to work a first-shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with basic electrical wiring in an industrial or automotive setting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints or assembly drawings.
  • Experience or knowledge of welding, including spot welding, in a fabrication environment.
  • Prior experience working with trailer assembly, automotive repair, or similar mechanical work.
  • Familiarity with hub, bearing, and brake system maintenance and replacement procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure all components are installed correctly and securely.
  • Comfort working in a shop or fabrication environment with power and pneumatic tools.
Why Work Here?

You will join a growing organization that is actively building a culture of hard-working individuals who take pride in the quality of what they produce. The environment is laid-back yet focused, where team members support each other to get the job done and enjoy a collaborative, music-friendly shop atmosphere. You will work in a stable team structure, gain valuable hands-on mechanical experience, and contribute directly to visible, tangible products that leave the facility ready for customers.

Work Environment

This role is based in a fabrication shop environment where trailers are assembled and finished for shipment. You will work on the finish line in teams of two, using hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools throughout the day. The facility operates on a first shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The shop maintains a laid-back atmosphere where music is played, and team members collaborate closely to complete daily production. The broader operation includes more than 100 employees, with finish technicians working in a dedicated area of the plant.
