Histotechnician
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Traveler Histotechnician to join our laboratory team. In this role, you will be a vital link in the diagnostic chain, performing both routine and non-routine activities to prepare high-quality slides for pathologist evaluation. As a traveler, you will bring your technical expertise in tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy to a dynamic environment that values precision, speed, and adherence to the highest regulatory standards. education: High School responsibilities:
- Slide Preparation: Perform routine and non-routine slide preparation for microscopic evaluation, including Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining.
- Tissue Processing & Embedding: Ensure proper tissue processing and perform embedding and microtomy for select specimen types as defined by lab leadership.
- Specialized Staining: Perform automated or manual coverslipping and execute special stains under the direction of the Histology Manager.
- Accessioning & Records: Process all paperwork associated with specimen accessioning and reporting with high accuracy.
- Quality & Compliance: Strictly adhere to laboratory quality control (QC) policies, documenting all QC activities and ensuring 100% compliance with local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of non-complex laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Organization: Maintain a clean, well-organized work area and manage the filing of finished blocks and slides.
qualifications:
Required Education & Experience (Must meet one of the following):
- Option A: An Associate degree (A.A. or A.S.) plus 1 year of histology experience within the last 10 years.
- Option B: High School diploma (or equivalent) plus 5 years of full-time histology experience within the last 10 years.
- Certification: HT (ASCP) certified, or ASCP certification eligible.
- Technical Mastery: Proven proficiency in microtomy, embedding, and staining techniques.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of CLIA and CAP requirements within a clinical histology setting.
- Adaptability: As a traveler, the ability to quickly learn new site-specific SOPs and integrate into the team is essential.
