Housing Counseling Coordinator

Reports to: Housing Resources Coordinator Supervisor
Employment Status Classification: Full-Time Salary; Exempt
Salary: $46,280 per year
Job Description Summary:
Community Housing Network (CHN) is seeking a Housing Counseling Coordinator to support a grant-funded initiative assisting low-income homeowners with Property Tax Exemption (PTE) applications and facilitate workshops. This role provides direct client services, outreach, and program coordination aligned with grant outcomes.
Essential Functions:
- Assists with the development and implementation of CHN’s Homeownership Education programming, procedures, curriculum, presentations, and marketing materials.
- Provides individual participant/household counseling using the following techniques and tools:
- Interviews participants in a confidential manner to obtain basic information about the participants and their housing needs.
- Applies a working knowledge of applicable mortgage and real estate laws and regulations.
- Assists participants with credit counseling, household budget preparation, and document assembly applications as necessary.
- Assist participants in developing an individual participant action plan while monitoring the participants’ progress toward meeting their goals.
- Manages participant files and paperwork.
- Maintains current and accurate participant data in the web-based case management system, recording case notes and time spent.
- Provide one-on-one assistance completing PTE applications, including document collection and eligibility review.
- Deliver housing navigation, referrals, and financial empowerment support.
- Plan and facilitate housing clinics and workshops.
- Conduct outreach and build partnerships with community organizations and local government.
- Track services and outcomes in program databases.
- Support program development, compliance, and reporting.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or human services related field preferred; or five years of human service-related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and services.
- HUD Housing Counseling Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Thorough understanding of real estate, banking, mortgage, and credit products and laws; Knowledge of current foreclosure laws and procedures; Knowledge of consumer protection laws and practices; Knowledge of consumer financial assistance programs; Solid understanding of the components of personal budgets and budgeting techniques
- Experience facilitating workshops possessing the ability to effectively organize and conduct classes and workshops, engaging a diverse group of participants in small to large group settings.
- Experience with community resources and services related to housing, property tax programs, and support is essential.
- Attentive to details, well organized to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly receptive to all customers both internal and external.
- Able to work as a part of a team as well as being self-directed.
- Motivated to deliver high-quality work with strong attention to detail, consistently ensuring tasks are competed accurately and on time.
- Proficiency with Microsoft software suite. Experience with entering and maintaining data in a case management system is desirable.
- Valid driver’s license and personal automobile coverage limits minimum: Bodily Injury $100,000 each person, $300,000 each occurrence Property Damage $100,000 each occurrence.

Travel:
This position is a driving role that requires the ability to work Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm in Oakland County and/or Macomb County both in the community and at the office.
There is also an occasional weekend outreach, evening outreach, and events that may occur outside of normal operating hours.
CHN reserves the right to require a motor vehicle record check with any employee where driving is an essential function of this position.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
The primary functions of this job will be to travel to community work in all elements in Oakland County and/or Macomb County to engage with participants. Requires the ability to be active, including walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs, and lifting.
