Position Summary
Climax-Scotts Community Schools is seeking a dedicated and motivated 8-Man Varsity Football Coach to lead and grow our high school football program. The coach will foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered culture that prioritizes safety, character development, academic achievement, sportsmanship, and mutual respect.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, effective communication, and a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field while building a program aligned with the values and expectations of Climax-Scotts Community Schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Culture
- Develop and implement a football program grounded in integrity, accountability, and positive sportsmanship.
- Establish and clearly communicate behavioral and performance expectations for student-athletes.
- Foster a team culture that promotes respect, inclusion, and emotional safety for all participants.
- Model professionalism and appropriate conduct at all times.
- Assemble, mentor, and supervise assistant coaches to ensure consistency within the program.
Student Development & Well-Being
- Promote academic success and monitor eligibility of student-athletes.
- Support the social-emotional growth of participants through constructive coaching practices.
- Provide instruction that develops fundamentals of football, teamwork, leadership, and discipline.
- Maintain an environment free from intimidation, harassment, or demeaning conduct.
Safety, Supervision & Compliance
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all student-athletes at all times.
- Follow all district policies, MHSAA regulations , and athletic codes of conduct.
- Maintain required certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and Concussion Awareness .
- Collaborate regularly with the Athletic Director and District Trainer regarding program operations and athlete welfare.
Communication & Community Engagement
- Maintain open, timely, and professional communication with athletes, parents, administration, and staff.
- Conduct preseason meetings with players and families outlining program expectations.
- Promote positive relationships within the school and the greater Climax-Scotts community.
- Encourage community involvement and pride in Panther athletics.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist with equipment inventory, maintenance, and facility oversight.
- Support scheduling coordination and transportation needs.
- Attend required meetings and professional development sessions.
Qualifications
- Prior football coaching experience preferred (varsity-level experience strongly preferred).
- A strong understanding of offensive and defensive football schemes and how to implement them.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of MHSAA rules and compliance expectations.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks and district hiring requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, ideal candidates may also have:
- Experience coordinating or developing football programs
- A vision for strengthening youth and middle school program alignment
- Experience with program organization, budgeting, and fundraising efforts
