Sludge Press Operator 1

Primary Function:

Responsible for assisting the Sludge Press Operator 2 in the daily operation of the sludge press and various minor housekeeping tasks throughout the property.

Basic Requirements:

  • Understand and observe all plant safety rules.
  • Must be able to perform this job safely and actively participate in all safety programs. Understand your surroundings and the potential dangers within your work areas.

Operations

  • Perform duties as assigned by the Environmental Compliance Supervisor
  • Sludge press employees will occasionally have to work overtime. As with all positions at the plant, overtime is mandatory and regular and predictable attendance is an essential factor.
  • The job procedures and requirements are applicable for the continuous operation of the Mill organization. The operator must remain on the job until the end of the shift and equipment is properly shut down for the day

Job Procedures and Requirements:

  • Assist the Sludge Press Operator 2 in the performance of their duties per their instructions
  • Must know how to complete the following sludge press operation tasks:
    • Assist in filling out daily operational paperwork as required
    • Start up, shut down, and operate the sludge press
    • Start up, shut down, and operate the chemical addition equipment
    • Communicate with the other Sludge Press Operator and Waste Treatment Operator
    • Must be able to complete daily housekeeping tasks
  • Must be familiar with the below equipment and tasks:
    • Operation of mobile equipment including bobcat, forklift, scissor lift, and articulating lift
    • Competency with simple hand and power tools
    • Hazwoper / Hazcom spill response
    • Painting, cleaning, minor landscaping, and various similar tasks as assigned
  • Must be able to perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) on various waste treatment equipment
  • Review Visual Work Instructions (VWI) and Lockout/Tagouts (LOTO)
  • Perform all wash-up and other duties as directed by the environmental compliance supervisor
  • Must be able to ‘train up’ to sludge press operator 2 within six months of employment

Qualifications

  • Be able to perform the essential physical requirements necessary for this position.
  • Demonstrate ability to safely operate a Fork Truck, Clamp Truck, and Bobcat. A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Promotes, maintains, and enforces safety to promote an accident-free operation.
  • Self-starter and the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • No significant performance/ attendance infractions within the last 36 months.
  • Must be able to perform all tasks required in the subsequent positions

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
