Sandblasting Technician – Mold Engraving & Texturing
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Sandblasting Technician to support mold engraving and texturing operations in a precision manufacturing environment. This role is heavily focused on abrasive blasting, including glass bead and oxide blasting, to properly prepare molds and tooling for engraving, texturing, and finishing.
The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of sandblasting experience, preferably within mold making, tool rooms, or engraving/texturing operations. This position requires strong attention to detail, safe equipment operation, and the ability to work independently while supporting a fast-paced, team-driven production floor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform sandblasting operations to prepare molds and tooling, including proper masking and surface preparation.
- Execute glass bead and oxide blasting based on job specifications and production requirements.
- Evaluate jobs on the production floor to determine sandblasting needs, priorities, and readiness.
- Operate tool room and blasting equipment safely, including cranes, hi-lows, and bead room equipment, while following all OSHA and PPE requirements.
- Inspect tools and molds before and after blasting for cleanliness, damage, alignment, and missing components.
- Ensure molds and tools meet required surface finish, texture readiness, and quality standards.
- Clean, stage, tear down, and prepare molds with extreme care to support engraving and texturing operations.
- Apply proper gloss levels when required and accurately read gloss meters; proficiency in gloss codes preferred.
- Complete data entry, open orders, and maintain accurate QC and production documentation.
- Support shipping and receiving, including checking in tools, staging completed jobs, and preparing molds for return shipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe blasting and tool room environment.
- Assist with sample runs and tooling trials for new and transferred tooling projects.
- Perform additional duties as needed to meet customer and production sandblasting requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school training preferred.
- 2–3 years of hands-on sandblasting experience, preferably in mold making, tooling, engraving, or texturing environments.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Strong experience with industrial sandblasting and abrasive blasting techniques.
- Knowledge of mold and tooling preparation for engraving and texturing.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, job travelers, and production documentation.
- Confident, on-the-spot decision-making in a production environment.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on surface quality and consistency.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating with a team.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to work a standard 40-hour work week with occasional to moderate overtime, including weekends.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, stoop, grip hand tools, and work for extended periods.
