Embedded Systems Engineer | Hart, MI

Salary Range: $84,000 - $129,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test embedded hardware and firmware for manufacturing equipment and production lines.
• Integrate sensors, actuators, and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT) into industrial control systems.
• Develop and optimize real-time operating systems (RTOS) and bare-metal firmware for automated manufacturing processes.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for embedded system failures on the factory floor.
• Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to define system requirements and ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
• Maintain and update existing embedded systems to improve performance, reliability, and introduce new features for manufacturing efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations for embedded systems used in manufacturing environments.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems development, including bare-metal and RTOS environments.
• Strong experience with microcontroller/microprocessor architectures (e.g., ARM, PIC) and peripheral interfaces.
• Demonstrated ability in hardware-software integration, debugging, and testing using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Modbus, Ethernet/IP) and sensor/actuator integration.
• Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) for high-volume production.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC UA, PROFINET, EtherCAT).
• Familiarity with industrial control systems (PLCs, SCADA) and their integration with embedded solutions.
• Exposure to IoT platforms and cloud connectivity for industrial data collection and analytics.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for industrial embedded devices.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) in a high-volume production environment.
