Environmental Health & Safety Specialist | Battle Creek, MI

Salary Range: $62,000 - $95,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations and company policies.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure safe working conditions.
• Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Manage hazardous waste and environmental programs, including permit compliance and reporting.
• Maintain required EHS documentation, permits, and records.
• Assist in the development and implementation of EHS management systems and procedures.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• 3-5 years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
• Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage EHS programs, conduct risk assessments, and deliver effective training.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.

Bonus Qualifications

• Advanced EHS certifications (e.g., OHST, ASP, CHMM)
• Experience with EHS management software platforms (e.g., Gensuite, Intelex, Sphera)
• Lean Six Sigma certification or experience with continuous improvement methodologies
• Experience as an Emergency Response Team (ERT) member or leader
