The Director of Employee Experience (HR) is a member of the senior administrative team, helping to lead the organization and influence culture, championing a best-in-class HR function and strong company-wide engagement, with particular focus on the following areas:

  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Clinical Scheduling
  • Employee Relations
  • Recruiting (led by a full time recruiting manager)
  • Management development and a culture of accountability

Managing a team of three to five direct reports, the successful candidate will be comfortable leading as well as doing and will have a tremendous opportunity to drive change as a key part of KA's future success.

This is a full-time onsite role with occasional, but not routine, opportunity for remote work.

Kalamazoo Anesthesiology is Southwest Michigan's leading provider of anesthesiology services, an expert administrator of surgical services, and the region's leading chronic pain management consultant. Founded by anesthesiologists over 50 years ago, KA is a privately held, physician-led partnership. We offer the full suite of perioperative services to the greater Kalamazoo community. Job Responsibilities

Compensation Strategy & Payroll

  • Manage and enhance KA's compensation strategy, ensure compensation and benefits offerings are clear to employees, answer questions, troubleshoot issues
  • Set KA's market-driven and data-driven compensation strategy in collaboration with executive leadership and Board
  • Collaborate with Finance/Accounting function to ensure payroll is accurate and timely

Employee Engagement & Employee Relations

  • Maintain high employee satisfaction and engagement; meet with employees frequently, visit clinical sites on a regular basis
  • Anticipate needs of employees and Board and proactively address issues
  • Hold office hours at offsite locations where clinical staff are working
  • Manage effective employee training on various topics as needed

Recruiting

  • Ensure effective sourcing of talent; identify, evaluate, and solve hiring challenges; ensure effective and timely CRNA recruiting process (led by Recruiting Manager)
  • Ensure effective and timely communications and marketing in support of employment brand (led by Recruiting Manager)

Clinical Scheduling

  • Lead scheduling team (including full-time Scheduling Lead and two dotted line CRNA scheduling leads)
  • Liaise with Physician Leads
  • Ensure effective scheduling that meets customer and business needs and maintains provider (i.e. physician and CRNA) satisfaction and engagement
  • Drive process improvements in partnership with scheduling team and Director of IT and Process Improvement

Management Development & Training

  • Drive development of talent, including managing talent review process, succession planning, and partnering with managers to create development plans
  • Drive further adoption of a culture of accountability
  • Maintain and improve employee performance, including updating annual review process

Benefits

  • Manage benefits program including annual enrollment (with support from Resource Coordinator)
    • Assess and recommend benefits program changes and benefits vendor(s) to maximize employee engagement and attract new hires; calculate budgetary impact
    • Conduct orientation on employee benefit plans and programs to new, eligible employees, along with assisting new hires complete documentation in HR system(s)
    • Enroll eligible employees in the appropriate benefit plans and programs, assisting them with regular questions throughout the year
    • Coordinate all COBRA and FMLA benefits for eligible employees and their dependents, and associated payroll impact

Additional Duties

  • Ensure HR technology is used effectively; set roadmap and executive in improvements to HR system(s) including UKG (with support from Resource Coordinator and in partnership with Director of IT and Process Improvement)
  • Ensure administrative staff is keeping up office environment to maximize productivity, operational efficiency, and business results including indoor and outdoor appearance, well stocked supplies, and proper maintenance of equipment and furniture (with support from Sr. Operations Coordinator)
  • Ensure timely credentialing that meets customer and business needs and maintains compliance (with support from Resource Coordinator)
  • Maintain and enhance implement KA's policies and procedures and ensure related processes exist for compliance and accountability (with support from Resource Coordinator)
  • Maintain compliance with appropriate HR regulations at local, state, and federal levels; mediate disputes and conduct employee investigations as required; liaise with outside legal counsel on HR matters as needed
  • Develop, articulate, and track performance metrics and operational objectives and the path to successful execution and measurable results
  • Lead the organization's efforts in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Support the organization's efforts in environmental sustainability
  • Ensure high performance of all direct reports
  • All other duties as assigned by manager

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) required
  • Compensation & benefits experience required
  • Employee relations experience required
  • Minimum 1 year team management experience required; 3+ years preferred
  • Organizational development / talent development experience preferred
  • SHRM, PHR, or equivalent certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years HR experience required; 10+ years preferred
  • Experience using an HR management system preferred
  • Experience working with healthcare professionals is a plus
  • Experience with Predictive Index is a plus
  • Familiarity with Crucial Conversations framework is a plus
  • Familiarity with Scaling Up framework is a plus
