Electrical design engineer

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to contribute to projects from concept to completion. This role involves providing electrical design input across a variety of initiatives, including programming, automation, and system integration. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with PLCs, robotics, HMIs, and electrical controls, and will be expected to troubleshoot and resolve issues across a range of equipment. You will lead the design and specification of manufacturing equipment for product handling, draft detailed equipment requirements, manage procurement, and oversee the start-up and debugging of new systems. This hands-on engineering role requires both technical expertise and project management capabilities.
Responsibilities

Design machines for manufacturing and product handling.

Modify machinery for new model introductions, safety, or quality improvements.

Write detailed equipment specifications for the procurement of manufacturing equipment.

Lead in the start-up and debug of new equipment.

Manage projects from inception through completion.

Support and improve existing manufacturing processes.
Essential Skills
-
BSEE, BSCE, or BSCS degree.
-
5+ years of experience programming PLCs and HMIs from scratch.

Extensive electrical design experience, including hardware and safety circuits.

Experience with pneumatics and hydraulic fluid power system design and troubleshooting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
-
Industrial robotics experience, particularly with Fanuc.

Experience integrating and programming servo drives.

Experience with machine risk assessments and design standards (ISO or similar).

Proficiency with Ethernet networking including IP configurations, managed switches, NAT, and networks.
Work Environment
This role is on-site in Battle Creek, on the 1st shift, at a large automotive manufacturer. The facility is very clean and bright, with nice amenities on the campus including a credit union, wellness clinic, and cafeteria. This is an excellent opportunity to work with highly advanced automation technology with minimal travel requirements (5%). The team is tight-knit and passionate about automation, and they enjoy unique challenges and rewards every day. They also have a tradition of going to lunch together on Fridays.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $48.00/hr.
