Operational and Laboratory Support Technician

We are seeking an Operational and Laboratory Support Technician to support the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Office of Chief Scientist, Office of Regulatory and Analytical Laboratories (OARL) at various locations throughout the contiguous United States including Atlanta, GA, Irvine, CA, Jamaica, NY, and Detroit, MI as well as in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

So, what will the Operational and Laboratory Support Technician at Terrestris do?
As the Operational and Laboratory Support Technician you will assist with day-to-day laboratory operations that support national regulatory and public health initiatives. This position plays a critical role in ensuring laboratory readiness, compliance, and operational efficiency to support the FDA's mission of protecting public health.
What does a typical day look like for the Operational and Laboratory Support Technician?
You will:
- Prepare Media and Solution to include, pH adjustments, heating, sterilization, labeling, and QA of both in-house and commercially prepared media.
- Perform Sterilization to include, autoclaving media, containers, and waste materials.
- Perform Sample Preparation by using aseptic/non-aseptic techniques to prepare samples up to 50 lbs. using blenders, grinders, and various utensils.
- Perform Environmental Monitoring through air and surface monitoring using sterile media and hand-held instruments and record results in QA forms/logbooks.
- Assist in Dishwashing through the manual and automatic cleaning of labware and transferring items between use, sterilization, and storage.
- Perform Waste Collection and Disposal by collecting and safely disposing of used materials.
- Assist in Laboratory Custodial Support by maintaining cleanliness of lab areas and performing acid cleaning of specific lab items.
- Provide Laboratory Safety Support by conducting regular eyewash and shower station checks.
- Perform Temperature Mapping by placing sensors, collecting data, and evaluating equipment against SOP-established criteria.
- Conduct Equipment Function Verification by verifying operation of balances, pipettes, pH meters, etc.
- Perform DI Water System Checks by conducting QA checks, reading meters, checking light indicators, performing microbial/resistivity tests, and recording results.
- Assist in Inventory Support through the tracking, ordering, and logging laboratory supplies and equipment using electronic systems.
- Provide Transition-In Support by supporting a smooth transition with:
- Transition Plan
- Onboarding activities
- Familiarity with protocols
- Identification of transition-related risks or issues
- Provide Laboratory Administrative Support by:
- Retrieving and delivering lab supplies
- Recordkeeping (e.g., time and attendance)
- Electronic scanning of records with OCR, ensuring image quality and correct sequencing
- Mailing and storing hardcopy records per FDA guidance
What qualifications do you look for?
You might be the medical professional we're looking for if you have:
- Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
- An Associate's degree in a scientific discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, Public Health, or related field), or equivalent technical experience in a laboratory environment; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- A minimum of (2) years of relevant experience in laboratory operations or technical support.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures, quality systems (e.g., ISO 17025), and regulatory environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, electronic inventory systems, and basic data entry software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills and high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
We are extra impressed by folks with:
- Experience working in a regulatory, federal, or public health laboratory environment.
- Knowledge of FDA mission and OARL's role in regulatory science.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
