Job Title: Distribution Designer

Job Description

Join an Engineering Consulting Company based in Michigan, where you will independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers. Engage in frequent communication with clients, possibly in person for meetings in Michigan, as well as through email, Teams, and phone. Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions, and calculating voltage drop and flicker. Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards are met. Conduct root cause analysis of outages and apply engineering principles and design to mitigate them.

Responsibilities

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems.
• Review work provided by clients and assess scope requirements.
• Communicate frequently with clients through various channels.
• Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis and voltage drop calculations.
• Provide engineering support and conduct post-construction reviews.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and apply engineering principles for mitigation.
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements.
• Develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in urban environments.
• Work on permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
  
  

Essential Skills

• Experience in distribution design.
• Associates degree in a relevant design field.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Basic utility knowledge.
  
  

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Open to candidates with distribution design experience from a competitor.
• Entry-level candidates considered, but experience is preferred.
• Experience working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company is advantageous.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
